One Killed in Taxi vs Ambulance Collision in Playa Vista

UPDATE (5:24 PM) All lanes are now being opened to traffic except Jefferson westbound near the other accident.

UPDATE (4:33 PM) – A vehicle traveling westbound on Jefferson blew through the traffic cones and caution tape into a Traffic Enforcement vehicle near the Home Depot at Playa Vista Drive. The law enforcement vehicle can be seen being towed away from the scene.

On Saturday morning a taxi collided with an LAFD ambulance at the corner of Lincoln and Jefferson near the edge of Playa Vista. The LAFD announced that one 60-year-old female passenger in the taxi was fatally injured. The male cab driver and LAFD personnel had minor injuries.

LAFD confirmed that the ambulance was responding to an emergency with lights and sirens activated when it was hit by the cab. The woman who was killed received immediate emergency attention but was pronounced dead at the intersection.

Posts on social media showed the intersection shut down for hours as the collision was investigated. Traffic was diverted via Bluff Creek Drive through Playa Vista.

Lincoln Blvd near Jefferson is often criticized as a dangerous intersection as Lincoln becomes an 8-lane thoroughfare with a 45 MPH speed limit, even while it borders residential communities and Loyola Marymount University.
